Gold formulas contain added Long Chain Polyunsaturated
Fatty Acids (LCPs). LCPs are part of two families of fatty acids
called: the omega-3 and the omega-6 series. The two LCPs added to
Gold formulas are Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA), an omega-3 fatty acid
and Arachidonic Acid (ARA), an omega-6 fatty acid. ARA and DHA are
naturally present in several foods, including breastmilk.
Both adults and babies need LCPs. There are
a number of studies that suggest that the addition of DHA in formula,
in particular, may help brain and visual development.
