Why breastmilk is best for babies

Breastmilk is best for babies because it:
  • Provides all the nutrition your full-term baby needs the first 6 months of life.
  • Provides all the fluid your baby needs. If your baby is thirsty, baby will demand to be fed more often.
  • Is always at the right temperature and is readily available.
  • Has a low risk of bacterial contamination.
  • Provides less risk of under or overfeeding.
  • Is readily digested and absorbed.
  • Reduces the risk of gastrointestinal, chest and ear infections because your antibodies are passed onto your baby through your milk.
  • Reduces the risk of food allergy.

Remember. A decision not to breastfeed can be very difficult to reverse.
