What equipment do you need?
Feeding Bottles
- Glass bottles are easier to clean than plastic,
but can break more easily.
- Bottles with straight sides and wide necks are
the easiest to clean.
- So that you only have to sterilise once a day,
you may wish to purchase enough bottles and teats to cover a whole
day's feeding.
Teats
- Teats come with either one or more holes. The
greater the number of holes the faster the milk will flow through
the teat. Formula should drip from the teat at about one drop
per second when tipped.
- Newborn babies should use one-holed teats. This
encourages vigorous sucking.
- Older babies should use teats with more than
one hole.
- The teat shape depends on what suits your baby,
so it is a matter of trial and error to find a suitable one.
- Adjust the tightness of the cap that holds the
teat as that will also affect the rate of milk flow. The tighter
the cap, the slower the milk flow.
Infant Formula
There
are many types of infant formula on the market so choosing one to
suit your baby can be very confusing. Click here for more information
